class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><p>La premi\u00e8re mention d\u2019un \u00ab Castellum \u00bb de Villemur est dat\u00e9e de 1035. Le site est propice \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense, naturellement prot\u00e9g\u00e9 par la rivi\u00e8re, 2 profonds ravins et un coteau abrupt. <br \/>Une cit\u00e9 m\u00e9di\u00e9vale va s\u2019y d\u00e9velopper, \u00e0 l\u2019abri de ses remparts et de sa Tour de d\u00e9fense. Ces fortifications sont d\u2019ailleurs \u00e0 l\u2019origine du nom \u00ab Ville Mur \u00bb. Louis XIII ordonnera la d\u00e9molition du ch\u00e2teau et des remparts en 1631. Seule la tour de d\u00e9fense sera \u00e9pargn\u00e9e.
